Family and Community Support Services is:

a legal partnership between the Province of Alberta and municipalities or Metis Settlements;

an agreement under which locally-driven preventive initiatives can be developed, to enhance the well-being of individuals, families and communities;

a funding arrangement through which the province provides a pre-determined grant for locally-driven initiatives, and municipalities match that grant by providing at least 20 percent of the funding;
-
a philosophy under which:
- local people can influence things that affect them;
- communities can be innovative and creative;
- citizen participation, self-help and volunteerism are encouraged;
human growth and potential are enhanced;
- continually evolving program that encourages communities to strengthen themselves.

Objective 1: To strengthen and maintain a structured system of networking and sharing of information and expertise amongst communities, boards and staffs.
Objective 2: To investigate and pursue common issues and concerns affecting municipal preventive social programs and those boards duly appointed by a local authority to administer such programs.
Objective 3: To advocate on behalf of local communities and programs to the general public, municipal governments, regional service/government bodies, provincial agencies and authorities and national agencies and authorities.
Objective 4: To provide orientation and education to individuals, communities, boards and staff via conferences, training events, newsletters and information included in the Resource Bank.
Objective 5: To provide, where possible, assistance regarding concerns or issues of a local or regional nature, and when specifically requested, to individual FCSS boards or other boards to be appointed by local authorities to provide preventive social programs.
Objective 6: To develop critical tools to assist communities and programs to meet local mandates and needs. |
